Dallas City Mayor

Mayor Tom Lepperd

Since being elected Mayor in 2007, I clearly have had one of the best jobs in the country. With over 1.2 million people, Dallas is the country’s 8th largest city and one of the best places in the world to live.

Dallas has the perfect blend of metropolitan sophistication, Southern hospitality, and big flashes of cowboy and Tejano tossed into the mix. This city not only celebrates its diversity, but understands it is one of our most critical assets for competing in a global economy.

Dallas is proud to be home to major Fortune 500 firms, but at the same time embraces small businesses and entrepreneurs. And our business-friendly city is ready to help new firms to put down roots, especially in Downtown Dallas and our sprawling Southern Sector, where there is plenty of room to grow.

And I would encourage residents and visitors alike to take some time and rediscover Big D.

Downtown Dallas has seen a tremendous rebirth. In one corner is our Arts District with its world renowned museums and performance halls, including those at the new AT&T Performing Arts Center. In another corner - Victory Park and the American Airlines Center. Rising downtown is the Omni Dallas Convention Center Hotel, and nearby is historic Main Street where many buildings have been restored in a neighborhood thousands now call home.

Surrounding downtown we have eclectic Deep Ellum, historic West End, the up-and-coming Cedars and trendy Uptown. Beyond that, travel into Oak Cliff and visit the Dallas Zoo, Bishop Arts District or Trinity Audubon Center. Watch the iconic Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge – designed by Santiago Calatrava - going up over the Trinity River. Step out to South Dallas and visit Fair Park, home of the State Fair of Texas. Travel to the Dallas Arboretum, our city’s garden showcase. Or take a run on the Katy Trail, around Kiest Park or White Rock Lake. And don’t forget all the incredible shopping throughout Dallas.
